PRESS STATEMENT ON AFRICA RECONSTRUCTION GLOBAL (VIRTUAL) SUMMIT (ARGS), RELEASED BY WORLD ECONOMIC CONGRESS [WEC] ON MONDAY 1ST FEBRUARY 2021

An Africa Reconstruction Global (Virtual) Summit (ARGS) is being prepared for 8-10 February, 2021, with streaming and live broadcasting set for Midrand, South Africa. Closing and breaking ranks with the past and current disasters and crises including COVID so as to start building The Africa We Want, the Summit is being coordinated by World Economic Congress (WEC) in partnership with Africa’s frontline solution leaders, pathfinders, game-changers, socio-economic pioneers and international collaborating partner organisations drawn from across the continent, diaspora, and internationally.  The organisers and delegates are drawn from sectors of business, investment, funding, faith, public service, central and local governments, communities, artistes, academia, the professions, including women and youth.

A panel of officiating African Heads of States & Government will give keynote addresses in sessions that will be streamed and broadcast live across the continent and worldwide to launch the next dispensation of Africa. Through special sessions, a panel of Heads of States/Governments will also engage with corporations, investors, funders, project leaders and solution leaders keen to pioneer and shape Africa’s Next Socio-Economic Reconstruction, thus racing towards producing The Africa We Want as per the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and contributing to the implementation of Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA). Apart from government heads, there are notable public and business speakers/presenters from all over the continent, in the diaspora, and internationally invited and participating in the Summit

The Summit will also launch and proclaim the Africa Reconstruction Global Initiative, which will trigger worldwide mobilization of Africans and Africa’s partners for the work of practical reconstruction in all sectors, as well as commission and exhibit strategic projects and initiatives for rebuilding Africa as prepared by various Summit partners. The initiatives/projects include:

  • The Africa Reconstruction Investments Master Plan to guide investors and projects;
  • The Africa Reconstruction Investments Hub (AfRIHub) which will promote and facilitate economic, business, financial, and social investments in, into and from Africa;
  • Unveiling the AfCFTA & its Private Sector & Citizens empowerment opportunities.
  • High-level engagement with Africa’s markets, funding solutions, and policymakers.
  • Connecting Africa’s continental potential with the solutions in her worldwide diaspora.
  • Fostering sustainable socio-economic destiny for citizens and the diaspora.
  • A quest for an Africa Reconstruction Charter; and,
  • The conversation towards a collaborative International Reconstruction Covenant.

Governments, organisations, corporations, entrepreneurs, communities, and innovators with model projects and solutions for Africa’s reconstruction are encouraged and welcome to engage, present, and exhibit during the Summit as part of their rollout.  The Summit which avails rare collaboration opportunities for spearheading Africa’s Reconstruction also augments national development plans and AfCFTA since it was enforced from 1st January, 2021 and created a continental free-trade zone with a combined Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of USD$3.4 trillion.
